These people right here. They are why I made my hobby of photographing friends, family and neighbors into a business.
I had never met them before our session. I had however, traded back and forth many emails with their daughter/mom/aunt. The coordinator of it all. She wanted an extended family session as a gift for her parents. She gifted the session months ago and we touched base in the spring to schedule it. While we chatted through email over a month or two, I gathered information about her... her family... her parents... their interests...
She told me that while she loved all the sessions that I have on my blog, she couldn't see *her* family looking the same in the photos. She couldn't insert her family into the poses, or imagine all smiling faces. Natural. Laughing. Enjoying one another. Even though, when she described her family, she kept saying that their relationships were so natural. That they laughed all the time together. That they enjoyed spending time with each other.
I totally get it. You look at a family and think that while your family is amazing, you can't get photos like *that*. But you can. As my wonderful clients learned.
Their session was totally natural. Like a big, loving family and all of the wonderful craziness that comes along with it. There were sincere laughs, meaningful hugs and maybe even a butt grab thrown in. Being able to provide a family with images like these are what makes me smile, long after our session together. And in all honesty, showing a family a gallery full of THIS, is why I do what I do.
